1. The service
Catalog Cleanup AI is a Shopify-embedded application that uses AI to bulk-rewrite product catalog content — descriptions, SEO meta fields, and image alt text. The service presents proposed rewrites in a diff view for your review and approval. Approved changes are applied to your Shopify catalog. Applied changes can be reversed within 90 days of apply.
Catalog Cleanup uses Anthropic's Claude AI models to generate rewrite proposals. Anthropic does not train its models on data sent through its API; the product fields you select are processed for the sole purpose of generating your requested rewrites and are not retained by Anthropic for model improvement.
Shopify relationship. Catalog Cleanup is an independent third-party app provider. Your use of Catalog Cleanup is not governed by Shopify's terms of service, and Shopify is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for Catalog Cleanup's content, availability, or accuracy. For Shopify support, contact Shopify directly. For Catalog Cleanup support, contact support@catalogcleanup.app.
Authorization on install. By installing Catalog Cleanup, you authorize us to access your Shopify Admin API on your behalf to: read product titles, descriptions, SEO fields, and image alt text for the products you select; apply approved rewrites; and receive Shopify webhooks (including app/uninstalled, customers/data_request, customers/redact, and shop/redact). You can revoke this authorization at any time by uninstalling the app from your Shopify Admin.
1a. Public demo
We operate a public AI rewrite demo at catalogcleanup.app/demo, available without a Shopify install. The demo accepts a product title, a description, and a voice preset, and returns a generated rewrite for preview only. By using the demo you agree:
- The demo is provided free of charge for evaluation purposes only. We may rate-limit, gate behind email verification, or temporarily disable the demo at our discretion to keep it available.
- You will not submit content that you do not have the right to submit, that infringes third-party rights, that contains personal data of third parties, or that is unlawful, hateful, or abusive.
- You will not attempt to manipulate the AI's behavior via prompt-injection, attempt to extract its system prompt, or attempt to circumvent the captcha, rate limits, or any other access control.
- You will not use the demo to generate volume at scale, for automated scraping, or for any purpose other than evaluating the rewrite quality on copy you own.
- Demo rewrites are generated by the same AI sub-processor used by the installed app (see Section 7 and our privacy policy). The disclaimers in Section 5 ("AI-generated content") and Section 10 ("Disclaimers") apply to demo output identically.
We may suspend or block access to the demo from any IP, email, or origin without notice if we suspect abuse.
2. Eligibility
You must (a) operate a Shopify store, (b) be authorized to bind that store to these terms, and (c) be at least 18 years old or the age of majority in your jurisdiction.
3. Subscription, trial, and pricing
- Pricing tiers: Starter ($19/month), Growth ($49/month), Pro ($99/month). Each tier includes a monthly quota of catalog rewrites; usage above the included quota is billed as overage at $0.025 per additional rewrite, capped per billing cycle.
- Free trial: 14 days. No charge during the trial. The trial converts to your selected paid tier when it ends, and Shopify will bill you on your billing date. To cancel before the trial ends, uninstall the app from your Shopify Admin (Settings → Apps and sales channels → Catalog Cleanup → Uninstall). Cancellation is effective immediately upon uninstall and you will not be charged.
- Billing: all charges are processed and refunded exclusively through Shopify's Billing API. We have no ability to reverse charges, issue refunds, or override Shopify-authorized refunds. Shopify's refund policies and chargeback procedures apply. For billing disputes, contact Shopify Billing Support directly. We will provide transaction records and product-use logs to support your dispute on request, but we do not make refund determinations and are not liable for refund delays, chargebacks, or Shopify's decisions.
- Quota limits: if you reach your tier's monthly quota, generation is paused until the next billing cycle or until you upgrade. Existing diffs and runs remain accessible during a quota pause.
- Price changes: we may change prices with at least 30 days' email notice to installed merchants. To reject the new pricing, uninstall the app from your Shopify Admin before the effective date; uninstalling during the notice window cancels your subscription free of charge. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new price.
- Refunds: we review refund requests case-by-case. Within 30 days of your first paid charge, we offer a satisfaction- based refund: if you've used less than 15% of your plan's monthly rewrite quota, we'll refund the full charge; if usage is between 15% and 50%, we'll offer a pro-rated refund based on remaining quota. Above 50% usage, or after the 30-day window, refunds are at our discretion. To request a refund, email support@catalogcleanup.app with your shop URL and we'll respond within 2 business days.
4. Your responsibilities
- Approval is your decision. Catalog Cleanup proposes rewrites; you decide what to publish. You are responsible for reviewing each proposed change before approving and applying it. We do not auto-apply.
- Content you publish. You are solely responsible for the catalog content you publish to your live store, including content originally generated by our AI and approved by you. The AI's output is a draft, not a final product, and may contain inaccuracies, errors, or claims you do not endorse.
- Acceptable use. Do not use the app to generate or publish content that: (i) infringes any third party's intellectual property rights, (ii) contains personally identifiable information about your customers, (iii) makes false or misleading product claims, (iv) violates Shopify's terms of service, your local consumer-protection laws, or applicable advertising standards, (v) contains malicious code or attempts to abuse the service. Catalog Cleanup does not actively monitor or moderate generated output; you remain solely responsible for the content you publish. We reserve the right to suspend access if we become aware of systematic misuse.
- AI disclosure to end customers. You are responsible for determining whether applicable law in your jurisdiction or in the jurisdictions where your customers are located (for example California's AI Transparency law, the EU AI Act, or comparable regional rules) requires you to disclose to your customers that product descriptions or other on-store content were generated using AI. You must comply with any such disclosure obligation. Catalog Cleanup does not determine, monitor, or surface AI-use disclosures on your behalf.
- Account security. Keep your Shopify Admin login secure. Notify us immediately at support@catalogcleanup.app if you suspect unauthorized access.
5. AI-generated content
Catalog Cleanup uses Anthropic's Claude AI models to generate rewrite proposals.
Active acknowledgment. By using Catalog Cleanup, you acknowledge and accept that:
- AI-generated text may contain factual errors, misleading claims, off-brand tone, omissions, or unintended similarity to third-party content;
- You are solely responsible for reviewing every proposed change and verifying its accuracy, brand fit, intellectual-property compliance, and conformity with applicable law before approving and applying it to your live store;
- Catalog Cleanup is a draft tool, not a final-publication tool — the diff-and-approve workflow exists so that nothing reaches your store without your express review and approval;
- We provide no warranty, express or implied, that the AI output is accurate, complete, fit for a particular purpose, free of third-party rights, or appropriate for your brand, audience, or jurisdiction.
Ownership. As between you and us, the rewrite proposals are yours to use, modify, or discard. We do not claim copyright over the output.
Data usage. Catalog Cleanup never trains on your catalog data. We send only the specific product fields you select for rewriting to Anthropic, and Anthropic does not retain or use this data to train its models.
Output similarity to third-party work. Claude was trained on a broad corpus of public internet data, including content protected by copyright. Generated output may unintentionally contain text, phrases, or structures similar to existing published work. This is not infringement by Catalog Cleanup or Anthropic, and we do not operate any filter to detect or prevent such similarity. You are responsible for reviewing each proposed rewrite for similarity to existing published content in your industry or on the open web before approving. For high-value categories, we recommend running outputs through a plagiarism-detection tool (for example Copyscape) before publishing. If you approve and publish content that turns out to be substantially similar to a third party's work, you assume all liability for the resulting infringement claim.
6. The 90-day undo window
Applied changes can be reversed for 90 days from the moment of apply. After 90 days, the original values may be removed from our records and undo will no longer be possible. If you have made further edits in Shopify after a Catalog Cleanup apply, the undo for that field may be skipped to avoid overwriting your manual changes; we will tell you exactly which fields skipped and why.
Undo availability and limitations. We store original field values for 90 days after apply and make them available for undo on request. Undo is a recovery feature, not a backup service: we maintain original values in our operational database only and do not operate redundant backups, archived snapshots, or off-site replicas for undo data. Undo is not guaranteed and may fail or be skipped due to: (a) manual edits you made in Shopify after the original apply (skipped to avoid overwriting your manual changes), (b) products or images deleted from your store, (c) Shopify API outages or rate limits, (d) failures of upstream providers (Anthropic, Railway, Cloudflare, Shopify), (e) data loss within the 90-day window from causes beyond our reasonable control, (f) requests made after the 90-day window has closed. We strongly recommend maintaining your own backup of any product data you consider critical.
If undo fails for reasons within our control during the 90-day window and you have not made manual edits to the affected fields, your sole remedy is a refund of the subscription fees paid for the calendar month in which the failure occurred, and indirect or consequential damages (lost sales, brand impact, etc.) are excluded under section 11. This sole-remedy provision does not limit liability for claims arising from our gross negligence, willful misconduct, or fraud as described in section 11.
7. Data and privacy
Our data handling is described in detail in the Privacy Policy. In summary: we process shop-level catalog metadata only; we do not process customer personal data; on uninstall, all shop-scoped data is deleted within Shopify's 48-hour redaction window.
8. Service availability
We aim to keep the service running and available, but we do not promise specific uptime. Scheduled maintenance, upstream provider outages (Shopify, Anthropic, Railway, Cloudflare), and unforeseen issues may cause interruption. We are not liable for losses arising from downtime or temporary unavailability. This disclaimer does not extend to failures in our own code or infrastructure that corrupt your product data during an apply or undo operation; for those cases, claims are governed by sections 6 and 11.
9. Termination
- By you: uninstall the app from your Shopify Admin at any time. Your subscription cancels automatically. Any shop-scoped data is deleted within Shopify's 48-hour redaction window.
- By us: we may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, abuse the service, or fail to pay (Shopify-handled billing). Except in cases of clear abuse, attempted exploitation, or legal risk, we will provide written notice describing the issue and give you 48 hours to respond or remedy. If the issue is not remedied within 48 hours, or if abuse is ongoing, we will suspend or terminate. In cases of clear abuse, fraud, or illegal activity, we may suspend or terminate immediately and without prior notice.
10. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the AI-generated content is accurate, complete, brand-appropriate, or fit for publication without review.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business opportunity, arising out of or related to your use of the service. This exclusion applies even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total cumulative liability for any direct damages arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) USD 250.
The exclusions and cap above do not apply to claims arising from our gross negligence, willful misconduct, or fraud.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for consequential damages. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, but in no case shall our liability exceed the amount of fees you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
12. Indemnification
(a) Your indemnity to us. You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the service provider, its representatives, and its successors against any third-party claim, demand, loss, damage, cost, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
- any catalog content you publish to your store — whether generated by our AI and approved by you, edited manually by you in Shopify, or imported from any other source — for which you alone are responsible regardless of origin;
- any allegation that the content you published — whether AI-generated or otherwise — infringes a third party's intellectual property rights, trademark, copyright, trade secret, rights of publicity, or contains defamatory or unlawful material;
- your failure to review AI-generated output before approving it;
- your violation of these terms or of any law or third-party right;
- your acts or omissions in operating your Shopify store.
(b) Our indemnity to you. We will defend you against any third-party claim that the Catalog Cleanup application itself — as distinct from the content it generates — infringes a valid third-party patent, copyright, or trademark, and we will pay damages finally awarded against you on such a claim, provided you (i) notify us promptly in writing of the claim, (ii) do not settle the claim without our prior written consent, and (iii) give us sole control of the defense and any settlement negotiations. This is your sole and exclusive remedy for any IP claim related to the application.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to installed merchants by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Minor clarifications will be reflected here with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
14. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Moldova, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. If you are a merchant or consumer located in the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with mandatory consumer-protection or data-protection laws, those laws apply to your use of the service to the extent they grant you protections that would otherwise be overridden by Moldovan law.
Any lawsuit or legal proceeding will be brought exclusively in the competent courts of Chișinău, Republic of Moldova, except: (a) if mandatory consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction grants you the right to bring proceedings before your local courts, you may exercise that right; and (b) for claims involving intellectual-property infringement or requests for injunctive relief, either party may seek relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
15. Severability
If any provision of these terms is held to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
